We have a replica Elizabeth I sixpence in our Tudor Handling Collection.
This coin is a replica of an original silver sixpence with the date 1562. The coin was originally struck at the Tower mint of London.
One one side, there is a crowned bust of the queen. She is facing left with a rose behind her. The reverse side shows a heraldic cross,with a shield of royal arms and the date above.
The letters around the edge of the coin on one side read : 'ELIZABETH : D .' G .' AN : FR .' ET · HI .' REGINA'. On the reverse side, the letters are: 'POSVI DEV .' ADIVTOREM : MEV .' (translating from Latin as 'I have made God my helper'.
